Our Medical Heritage 🌿

Our family has a long-standing tradition of serving people through traditional medical practices and preserving valuable medical knowledge passed down through generations. This heritage represents the dedication, experience, and wisdom of our ancestors.

Beginning with Velayutham Asan, followed by Vedhakan Asan, Augustine Vaidyar, and now Dr. Jagan, our family continues to preserve and carry forward this traditional medical legacy.

Our aim is to respect our ancestral knowledge, provide patient-centred care, and pass on this valuable heritage to future generations.

A Legacy Passed Down Through Generations

Our traditional medical heritage began with Velayutham Asan and was continued by his son, Vedhakan Asan. Later, Augustine Vaidyar carried this tradition forward, dedicating himself to learning and practising traditional medicine.

Augustine Vaidyar learned from Kolappan Asan and several other respected traditional masters of his time. Through their guidance and his own experience, he developed knowledge of traditional practices, including Varma Kalai, Kalari, Sevadu methods, and Varma Thadavu techniques.

His son, Dr. Jagan, continues this family tradition. He also learned traditional medical knowledge and practices under the guidance of Wilson Asan as his disciple.

Through the teacher–disciple tradition and the father–son lineage, knowledge, experience, skills, and a commitment to serving people continue to be passed from one generation to the next.

Our Approach

Traditional Medicine and an Integrated Approach:
Dr. Jagan continues to uphold the family's traditional medical heritage while following an approach that considers the individual needs and condition of each patient.

Traditional practices are considered alongside supportive approaches such as yoga, meditation, relaxation practices, and nature-based wellness methods.

Areas of care include bone fractures and injuries, spinal conditions, degenerative bone and joint problems, vertebral displacement, post-stroke rehabilitation support, arthritis-related conditions, women's wellness, and traditional Varma practices.

Where appropriate, practitioners from different medical disciplines—including qualified medical doctors, traditional practitioners, Siddha practitioners, Ayurvedic practitioners, and naturopathy professionals—share their expertise to discuss patient needs and determine suitable care plans.

Key Steps in Our Care Approach:
1. Understanding the Patient: Listening to the patient's concerns, symptoms, medical history, and individual needs.
2. Assessing the Condition: Considering the available information and identifying whether further medical evaluation is required.
3. Professional Consultation: Seeking input from appropriately qualified practitioners when an integrated approach is suitable.
4. Individualised Care Planning: Discussing appropriate treatment options based on the patient's condition and professional assessment.
5. Supportive Wellness Practices: Considering suitable relaxation, yoga, meditation, and lifestyle practices as complementary support.
6. Follow-Up and Guidance: Reviewing progress and recommending further evaluation or referral when necessary.

Our guiding principle is to combine respect for traditional heritage with patient safety, professional responsibility, and compassionate service.

Benefits of a Patient-Centred Approach 🌿

Our approach places importance on traditional knowledge, individual needs, and the responsible integration of supportive wellness practices.

Personalised Attention: Understanding each patient's concerns and individual needs.
Traditional Knowledge: Preserving the experience and practices inherited from previous generations.
Holistic Wellness: Giving attention to physical well-being, relaxation, and healthy lifestyle practices.
Integrated Perspectives: Encouraging professional discussion when different medical disciplines are relevant.
Cultural Preservation: Maintaining traditional medical knowledge, herbal practices, and historical records.
Continuity of Care: Emphasising appropriate guidance, follow-up, and referral when necessary.

Treatment outcomes vary from person to person. Traditional practices and wellness methods should not replace necessary medical evaluation, emergency treatment, or evidence-based care.
